I was at the market the other day, initially looking for NYLON magazine, and I came across this special issue of Mad Magazine based around the 80’s. What really drew me to look at it and eventually buy it, for $13.00, was that I am obsessed with 80’s fashion. However, I know very little about the decade itself.
I was born in 1990 and I have currently become obsessed with certain aspects of 80’s style, particularly fanny packs.
After flipping through the pages for quite some time, I realized I had to have this special edition of MAD magazine. There was so much to learn, and getting to discover what Hollywood, politics, and fashion was like through comedy and parody excited me.
I have worn fanny packs for ages now and have done some research on the background of them. One thing that came out of my research was that fanny packs were created in the 80’s. Once learning a bit about fanny packs, I felt as though I should know more about the decade. Seeing this magazine in the market, I guess you could say, was fate. What better way to educate myself than through MAD magazine?! 😎👅❤︎
Anyways, I always have had a love for MAD magazine. In particular, I have a great appreciation for its illustrations and clever writing. Now, especially with politics being so ridiculous, I am utilizing this classic magazine to get a bit of an education about life, culture, and fashion during the 80’s
BTW, here is a photo of the last issue I bought of MAD magazine.
Question of the day: Did you ever buy or read MAD magazine? If not, what is your favorite magazine?
